Hey sports fans!! Thanks for stopping by my blog! I am a self admitted “rink rat” so a lot of this blog will be about figure skating and hockey, however as an ex-figure skater, ex-varsity athlete and a sports fan in general, I usually have thoughts and opinions about alot of different sports I follow, so visit often!
My Worlds experience has begun early with a super cool encounter with Brian Orser.
During my flight from Frankfurt to Helsinki, I had the pleasure of sitting directly next to Brian. As I have been a fan of his for many, many years, this was such a treat!! He was very friendly as I introduced myself. We chatted briefly about non-Yuzu things and then I asked Brian how Yuzu was doing.
“Yuzu’s doing great, he’s doing really well. This is the best shape he has been in since I have been with him. It’s been five years and this is the best shape Yuzu’s ever been in, in my opinion” Brian said.
I told Brian that I wrote a sports blog and then I asked for and got permission from him to post his words. Thanks so much Brian!!
I also asked Brian if/when his two books would be published in English. Brian said that he wasn’t sure if they were going to be, and that his best suggestion would be to contact the publisher. Now it’s on my to do list after Worlds. Hopefully some of you will also help with this and with a large enough number of english speaking fans perhaps we can convince them to do it. He didn’t know the name of the publisher off the top of his head but he said it should be listed in the front jacket of his latest book. I will publish any further information about this as I find it.
I will blog about my experience after Worlds is over but so far, it’s off to a great start!!!
Go Yuzu Go!!! Doki Doki!!
Thank you for very latest Brian’s quote about Yuzu. Wow! Many funs are wondering about Yuzu’s whereabout and how is he for a while. He arrived Helsinki in good shape around 16:00 today.
I’d like to inform you about the publisher of the Team Brian…It is “Kodansha” (2-12-21, Otowa, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo, Japan/postal code:112-8001)which is one of the leading publisher in Japan. The ISBN no. of latest book is 978-4-06-220118-6.
Wishing you a wonderful and exciting stay in Helsinki Enjoy every minutes of your stay! Go Yuzu go!!

I’m glad to be help of. Those books are very interesting! It would be very nice to read in the original language. I was a fan of Brian until he retired in ’88 and happy to see him with Yuzu(& others).

Wow! You seem to have luck bumping into people on flights! First Shoma, now Brian. That is so cool. Was his book originally published in Japanese?

Yes…surprisingly by flying through Frankfurt (best option from Canada) I have gotten extremely lucky. Yes, his two Team Brian books have only ever been published in Japanese. His original book as a skater was published in English.

Maybe it’s just something to do with the Frankfurt airport…

Lucky for you, I hope it’s just the beginning of many good things.
You deserve all your commitment and wonderful work on the blog.
Although English is not my native language, I will help as I can to request the translation of Yuzuru’s books.
All fans of Yuzuru deserve the chance to read his words.
Thank you for telling us about your experience with Brian.
I’m looking forward to more stories about your adventures.
Good luck to Yuzuru and to us.

Wow! Thank you for the great news about Yuzu, and you are so blessed to sit next to Brian!!! And you deserve it!
I am leaving for Helsinki tomorrow to watch Yuzu, too!
If you could help me, i have questions about the practice tickets i bought to watch Yuzu’s practice.
– March 30th. 6am ???
– and April 1st. ???
What time Yuzu’s practice (MEN’s) will begin for both dates?
The time schedule said that the men’s practice on April 1st is at PR.
It means i can not watch Men’s practice on April 1st?
I would appreciate your help.
Thank you so much!

March 30th mens practice starts at 6am but the practice groups are not announced yet so not sure exactly when Yuzu skates that day yet. We should know today or tomorrow. For April 1st…correct, mens practice is in the othe practice rink and there is no public access.

I have just arrived in Helsinki !
Is there any update on men’s (Yuzu’) practice tomorrow ?
I am checking the official website, but could not find yet.

Hi. Yuzu skates first in the final group so if they do it in order, the last group of men practice at 8:50am. However, mens practice starts at 6am…..so i would advise you go early…. 😊

How lucky for you to be seated next to Brian!! I am glad to here the Yuzu is in good shape. I took Saturday off so I could see the mens final. I DVR a lot of figure skating but if I don’t watch it right away I will see results online before I see the competition . This is a battle I want to see!
I am also hoping they publish those books about Brian and Yuzu in English. I love Yuzu but I can’t get a true sense of his personality. Like whats he really like? I heard there is an interview that Brian did about Yuzu and Javi; do you happen to have the link to it?
Thanks for all you do.

Are you referring to recent interview with
Spanish tv on Javi where both Yuzu and Javi talk? I think Brian got interviewed too…is this the one? If so, I think I have the link, pls confirm.

Hi, do you happen to have some updates on the Yuzu’s autobiographies & other books? I don’t think any of it has been translated to English yet. Although, we can actually get the English version through some bloggers. It will still be better to read a proper Yuzu book. Thanks.

No I do not believe official English versions have been published yet. Only the fan translated versions are available.

Thank you for the reply. I’m wondering if the fan versions are translated accurately. Just wish to read Yuzu’s story as close to his thoughts as possible. Maybe I’m being overly concerned…
